Aging Out of Foster Care

Imagine being 18 and suddenly homeless.
Barnabas Vision has seen it happen. A teen turns 18 and is no longer eligible to receive government-funded services through the foster care system and is turned out of their foster home. While some remain in their foster family’s care until they’re established on their own, some do not. Sadly, some foster families stop providing these teens a home, meals, transportation, or other resources upon termination of government funding.
Some of them are still finishing high school or looking for a job.
Most housing providers won’t allow an 18 year old to sign a lease. Often these teens do not own a car. The burden of figuring out meals and transportation, finding housing, and getting a job is overwhelming. Most have little community or support.
That’s why we are so excited about this new opportunity to serve some of the most vulnerable members of our community! Our Aging-out of Foster Care program is specifically designed to help these young people avoid the desperate situation of homelessness. We will partner with them to find safe, affordable housing, stable employment, and reliable transportation.
To make sure they aren’t having to choose between food and other basic necessities.
How can you help?
We need you to cover this new program in prayer. We’re asking our prayer warriors to sign up and commit to praying for 18 minutes on a specific day (or recurring days) to help cover this new ministry in prayer continuously. Or if you like to pray in community, to host a prayer event (approx. 45 minutes – 1 hour) simply by forming a group of 3 or more people to pray together. This can be anywhere: coffee shop, public park, our office, homes, etc. Our goal is for one of our BV staff to join the group prayer events.
By becoming one of our prayer partners, you will receive a prayer packet with scriptures and key focal points to pray about. If you are willing to be actively involved in praying for this ministry, please click the link to sign up.
